sunybuni asked:

We are doing a secret Santa and the person I am buying for loves classical music and as for a favorite singer has listed Andrea Boceli. I am a classic rock fan, so need a little (lot) of help here. I googled it and came up with Josh Groban, Charlotte Church or Celtic Women as possible similar artists. Any suggestions on cd’s or other musicians would be helpful. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

I would give them The Greatest Gift of All! (A Colbert Christmas!)..

    Product Description
America’s favorite Christmas tradition is now on DVD! Families have gathered around the TV to enjoy Stephen Colbert’s Christmas specials every year since 2008. Now you can experience the joy over and over! Join Stephen and his friends – Toby Keith, Elvis Costello, John Legend, Feist, Willie Nelson, and Jon Stewart – for a yuletide evening of song, dance and nog-induced dementia.

Andrea Bocelli is a crossover artist, which means he combines some aspects of classical music, usually the orchestration, with a pop like feel and pop vocals. He sings some opera arias, but in a pop style. I don’t know which cds this person already has, but other crossover artists are Il Divo, Katherine Jenkins, Sarah Brightman, Hayley Westenra, the Trans Siberian Orchestra, Vanessa Mae, Keedie, Becky Jane Taylor, Amy Nuttall, Russell Watson, Paul Potts, Izzy, and Cortes. There are obviously many more artists as examples. I prefer opera singers personally, but those are some examples that I’ve heard of.

Bryn Terfel as a solo artist or John Rutter’s Cambridge Singers.
