Bear asked:

What I’m asking it again?!?

‘Fraid so. The answers have been so helpful I have to ask again. I am working a on a book a children’s book of great female musicians (singers, composers, instrumentalists). Women who blazed the way for the female musicians of today. So I want nominations of Arabic legends, Eastern European legends, Greek legends, J-pop Legends; Percussionists, guitarists, composers, anyone you think is worthy to be in such a book etc.

Now to make it easier or harder here are some obvious choices I already submitted.

Ella Fitzgerald
Billie Holiday
Bessie Smith
Aretha Franklin
Bonnie Raitt
Etta James
Tina Turner
Koko Taylor
Joni Mitchell
Janis Joplin
Celia Cruz
Edith Piaf
Marlene Dietrich
Ofra Haza
Astrud Gilberto
Yumi Matsutoya
Faye Wong

Nominate 3 or more and list their country of origin. Only answers with three noms gets best answer. You can go to
http://www.pajamadancing.com/MPBpromo2.html
to see the full list of nominations and submit noms there too.

Okay this is like the coolest idea ever! I just followed the link and that is the hugest list of people nominated and so I have to add a few important people to that list.

1st off, what? No Miriam Mama Africa Makeba, she was South African singer and the most famous singer from Africa period.

Marcia Griffiths from Jamaica The Queen of Reggae, she sang back up for Bob Marley and is huge solo star in Jamaica and the Caribbean

Bernadette from Australia she is Queen of the Congo drums and plays all kinds of percussion instruments. Look up her website to find out more.

Then there is Evelyn Glennie from Scotland who is a world famous percussionist who is also deaf.

I saw Faye Wong but where is Na-Ying or Sandy Lam?

How about Ayumi Hamasaki from Japan? She is one of the few female singers in Japan who has complete control over her career and music because the music industry there is very tightly controlled by big companies.

Hope that helps. If I think of any more I’ll e-mail you.
