Bear asked:

I wanted to know why my World Party CD had no women on it. And that got me working a children’s book about great female musicians (singers, composers, instrumentalists) of the 2oth century (the 1900s). So I want your nominations you think would be worthy to be in such a book. You can nominate anyone from any country; Arabic legends, Eastern European legends, Greek legends, J-pop Legends; Percussionists, guitarists, composers…

Here some of the more famous nominations I have received already.

Ella Fitzgerald
Billie Holiday
Bessie Smith
Aretha Franklin
Bonnie Raitt
Etta James
Tina Turner
Koko Taylor
Joni Mitchell
Joan Towers
Janis Joplin
Celia Cruz
Edith Piaf
Marlene Dietrich
Ofra Haza
Astrud Gilberto
Yumi Matsutoya
Faye Wong

Nominate 3 or more and list their country of origin. Only answers with three noms gets best answer. To see the full list of noms and to vote for your favorites go to http://www.pajamadancing.com/MPBpromo2.html

Okay, you liked asked this a million times already but whatever I thought of some more ideas for you.

    Chava Alberstein from Poland
Basia also from Poland (She’s the best!)
The Poozies are an all female Scottish Folk group.
Sileas - is a Harp Duo featuring two members of the poozies
Moya Brennan from Ireland She was in a group called Clannad that basically revived Celtic music. She is Queen of the Celts

Liona Boyd - classical guitarist who has played with Eric Clapton and other big names.
Julian Bream - classical guitarist/lutist who trained Liona Boyd

They are both from England by the way. Though I think Liona live in Canada now.

I’ll look for Asian artists in my collection I don’t know much about Asian music though.

Well, you NEED to add Cesaria Evora, but Astrud Gilberto for sure (Brazil) and her daughter bebel gilberto. Edith Piaf (France) is great as well. And Cesaria Evora (from Cape Verde - Africa) needs to be on the list. Celia Cruz is awesome as well.
