Happy Friday, RP!!! :)
I asked a question not too long ago about musicians becoming superheroes and what their super powers would be, but I’ve put a slight twist on it here. Which musicians would be the best fit to be these already-existing superheroes?

Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Flash
Green Lantern
Aquaman
Martian Manhunter

This was the original line-up, but if you have any you would like to add feel free. And why you choose each one is up to you…

I’m not really bothered by it, but I think it’s odd, I’ve been playing the guitar since age 14 or so (I’m 29) and reading all the guitar magazines (guitar, guitar world, guitar player, etc) and all the other women are just dancing around in bikinis in the gear advertisements. I’m just curious as to why a disproportionate number of people who share my passion for the guitar are male? And it is my passion, other girls get hot and bothered when they see musicians but I just think, Oh my goodness, I’d better go practice, I’m not satisfied with my guitar playing and don’t want someone else to be better than me, lol. But what bothers me is that people discriminate against you if you’re female, they expect you to be either the singer (I sing ok but it’s not my passion) or the groupie, throwing yourself and your underwear at whatever musician you think is ****. But instead, I try to figure out their technique (if he’s a decent guitarist).
It’s not that I care what people think but why DO people find it weird that I have a passion for the guitar. Why does society have the notion that you have to have a Y chromosome to be a guitar player?
Oh yeah someone pointed out to me the one from Tokyo Hotel is a woman but I can’t think of her name… sorry
Oh yeah I saw Susan Tedeschi in person, live… interesting technique, she oscillates between finger picking and using a pick.
i realize that there are women who play the guitar, Lita Ford, bonnie raitt, etc…
But a DISPROPORTIONATE number of guitarists are men… like 95% perhaps?
Why are MOST of them guys?
thanks if u can hlep me figure this out, I’m really curious!

Gracias,

Girasole

I’m not talking about RB singers here. I’m talking about bands. It seems like 95% of people in popular bands these days are men. There are exceptions, like Rush, that feature some women. But honestly I’d say 95% is probably about a correct figure. Think of all the completely male bands that have dominated entertainment for the last 40 years: ACDC, The Rolling Stones, Green Day, Metallica, Blink-182, Nickelback, Pantera, Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, The Who, ect. ect. ect. I mean, women listen to Rock/Punk/Classic Rock/Metal/Emo/Alt Rock/Pop Rock … How come the vast, vast, majority of musicians in these bands are men?
Lol Rebel I try to be constructive most of the time. Glad I could help.
As I said eight9 there are exceptions. However, the only bands I would call popular from your list are Paramore and Evenecense (sic) and even then only the singers of those bands are women. They could easily fall within the 5% I theorized.
Heart is also fairly well known I concede, though still well within the 5%.
Never heard of L7 or Tori Amos, and Madonna and Cher aren’t really in bands…. they are more so solo artists that tour with bands to back them up. Not only that they are pop singers.
And having talent doesn’t equate with being popular. Obviously there are talented female musicians. The question of why most people can’t name more than a few is the question here. Particularly with regards to Musicians, as oppose to singers.
EternalConfusion, I have heard of ArchEnemy, but I’m into Metal and I doubt most people have. Still that’s one member of the band, and she’s the singer. The other bands you mentioned I, and probably most average people have not heard of. Like I said there ARE TALENTED FEMALE MUSICIANS… its just most of them don’t seem to be popular.
